In this article I would like to share with you a few blogging success tips I learned from my weight loss experience in the last 4 years. Many of you may wonder how lessons from losing weight may apply to blogging. If fact they do. The following 6 lessons apply to both weight loss and blogging alike:
Set Specific Goals and then Write Down a Plan
Setting these specific goals—and writing them down — will help you determine a plan. Your goal is essentially what you want to achieve. Do you have a number of pounds you would like to lose? What is your fitness goal? These questions are a part of your weight loss plan, which in turn is a part of your fitness goal.
You need to have goals when it comes to developing your blog. You have to ask yourself specific questions. Usually a blogging plan depends on your monetary goals. How do you plan to monetize your blog? Who is going to manage your blog? How are you going to outsource your content? How many blog posts do you want to write each week? How are you going to manage your promotion and SEO? These questions form a part of your plan, which in turn is created by your goal.
Set a Timeline
This is part of the goal-setting process. Without a timeline, how do we know if we are succeeding or failing? I could say I’ve been losing weight for years, but without a timeline, my progress (or lack of progress) is irrelevant.
Explore Your Options
Decide if you want to follow a guided weight loss program, like Weight Watchers, or if you want to try a specific diet (low-carb/high-protein, low-calorie, vegetarian, etc.). What kind of exercises will you incorporate into your diet? Some plans have exercise already in the plan, but with others you will need to set your own goals or find a separate exercise plan. Figure out what works best for your body’s needs. The number one priority in any diet is to stay healthy.
In the same line of thought, explore your blogging options. If you are just setting up your blog, browse through the different sites you can work with and determine which one will best suit your needs. Do you want to work with a template that’s already in place, purchase one or build one from scratch?
Whether you’re blogging or working to lose weight, you’ll have a much greater chance of succeeding if you think positively about the process. When you hit a rough patch, just think about all the rewarding aspects (present or future tense) of what you are doing. Go back to your goals that you wrote down in ironclad paper and pen and examine yourself. Do your thoughts, feelings and actions align with your ultimate goal?
Ask for Expert Help When You Need It
It’s ok, we all need help. It takes a lot of courage to admit that we need help sometimes, but if your weight loss or blogging goals just aren’t working, seek out help from someone who has been there before. Ask him for help. Are your goals realistic? Is your plan of action correct?
Make Yourself Accountable to Others
Being accountable is something that is encouraged by most weight loss and diet companies, like Weight Watchers. This applies to any legitimate goal you may have, being in your blogging career or weight loss efforts.
Sharing your goal with others makes your subconscious mind more accountable, increases your level of commitment and subsequently increases your chance of success. You’re not going to achieve your goals if you don’t commit to your plans 100%. It is one thing to say this to yourself only and a far more binding promise if you actually announce to others what you are planning to do.
Today you can even use your social media to get others involved so you are more motivated to follow through with your plans. For example, tweet a promotion for the blog you are going to write or make a Facebook event for your grand “unveiling” party after you’ve lost all of your weight.
